Intelligent Design from Concept to Construction
Our in-house design team uses BIM-compatible software to provide comprehensive support from concept feasibility through to full design, ensuring full compliance with UK building regulations and performance standards.

Caledan offer two distinct levels of design service: Indicative Design and Full Design, with the option to provide estimated lump-sum supply prices if required.
Many clients initially choose an Indicative Design, typically for budgeting or tender purposes. Please note that Indicative Designs are not suitable for construction.
For projects progressing into delivery, our Full Design service provides complete structural calculations, fully detailed models, and BIM-compatible outputs. Using industry-leading software including Vertex and Autodesk Revit, we can generate RVT and IFC file formats for seamless collaboration with project teams.
Every fully designed Caledan solution is covered by our Professional Indemnity insurance, with collateral warranties available where required — giving clients and contractors confidence in compliance, quality, and
accountability.
Key Benefits of the Caledan Design Service:
- Clear choice of Indicative (budget/tender) or Full Design (construction-ready).
- Cost certainty with optional estimated lump-sum supply prices.
- Seamless integration with project teams through BIM-compatible RVT and IFC files.
- Comprehensive engineering supported by structural calculations and advanced software.
- Backed by Professional Indemnity insurance and collateral warranties.

Our system factors in:
Structural Performance
Including spans, loads, and material optimisation
Environmental conditions
Wind loads and project-specific site factors.
Compliance
Aligned with the latest European design codes for light gauge steel (BS EN 1993-1-3).
Our design process isn’t just about ticking technical boxes; it’s about giving you peace of mind. Every calculation, every drawing, and every recommendation is aimed at delivering:
- A safe, efficient, and durable steel solution.
- Optimised designs that save time on site.
- Complete transparency from first draft to final approval.

DESIGN FAQ's
What is included in Caledan’s design service?
Our design service covers everything from initial concept drawings and indicative designs for tendering, through to fully warrantied construction-ready designs, BIM integration, and complete structural calculations.
Can Caledan provide BIM-compatible designs?
Yes. We use advanced design software to produce BIM-compatible files (IFC exchange format), making it easy for architects, engineers, and contractors to integrate our designs into their workflows.
What is the difference between indicative design and full design?
Indicative design is created for tender or budget purposes only—it should not be used for construction. Full design includes all the calculations, compliance checks, and details needed for on-site build and manufacturing.
How does Caledan ensure design accuracy?
We use the latest European design codes for light gauge steel framing (BS EN 1993-1-3) and run detailed structural, wind load, and performance calculations to ensure each design meets the highest standards.
Can Caledan design to Passivhaus standards?
Yes. Our design team has experience delivering systems that meet Passivhaus performance requirements, including airtightness, acoustic performance, and energy efficiency.
